Beyond the sound. Beyond the image. The human behind the noise.
For this edition of THE HUMAN BEHIND THE NOISE, we step into the world of DEAD ROCKSTAR, an artist whose work exists somewhere between noise, hostility, isolation and something deeply human.
Behind the mask and the abrasive sound is an artistic identity that refuses easy explanations. DEAD ROCKSTAR is not presented as a character separate from the person behind it, but as a space where emotions and experiences can exist without having to become socially acceptable.
We talked about identity, anger, masks, misanthropy, authenticity, underground culture, and what remains of the human being behind the noise.
Where does DEAD ROCKSTAR end and the person behind it begin?
doesn’t really end. DEAD ROCKSTAR is not a character I put on and take off when I’m done making music. It’s just the part of me that has no interest in being socially acceptable. The person and the project overlap. The difference is that one of them has to function in the real world. IAM DEAD ROCKSTAR. DEAD ROCKSTAR IS NOT A CHARACTER OR A DJ, HE’S INSIDE EVERYBODY, HE’S AN ACT, HE’S A TRAUMA VOICES, HE’S ILLNESS YOU CAN’T EXPLAIN INSIDE YOUR HEAD
What does DEAD ROCKSTAR allow you to express that you couldn’t express in any other way
HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE.
Noise doesn’t need permission to make sense. I can turn things I can’t articulate into something physical and let people deal with it themselves.
Your music often feels like anger, tension and darkness being turned into something physical. What happens to you when you create?
TUNISIA IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS, If it feels too safe, it’s probably useless.
Is hiding your face part of the artistic world you’ve created, a way of protecting yourself — or both?
PEOPLE OBSESSED WITH FACES SO I WEAR MASK.
Do you think some emotions can only be understood when they become sound?
ONLY NEGATIVE EMOTIONS BECOME A SOUND
Your work often deals with themes of (Anti)humanity, isolation and hostility. What is it about the human condition that fascinates or disturbs you most?
A misanthrope is a person who dislikes, distrusts, or avoids other people and humankind in general
Has creating music ever helped you transform something painful or difficult into something you could live with?
Yes but I wouldn’t call it healing I don’t make music to fix things I make it so they have somewhere to exist outside of my head Sometimes that’s enough broski
What does authenticity mean when the artist exists partly behind a character or a mask?
Authenticity doesn’t mean showing your face or telling people everything about yourself. It means not lying through the work. The mask can be fake. The intention behind it doesn’t have to be.
What does underground culture mean to you today — and what should it never become?
UNDERGROUND IS DEAD BROX
If someone truly understood DEAD ROCKSTAR through your music, what would you hope they understand about the human behind the noise?
Honestly, I don’t need them to understand me. If they understand that the noise came from somewhere real, that’s enough. I’d rather leave them with a feeling they can’t explain than give them a clean biography and tell them what they’re supposed to think. The noise speaks for itself
THE HUMAN BEHIND THE NOISE is an ongoing interview series by EXIT7 RECORDS, exploring the people, experiences and perspectives behind uncompromising sounds.
